These are the basic information that will help you to import car from Japan to Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the largest importers of used cars from Japan to East African countries. [Shipping Ports]
\nUsed cars from Japan are shipped to the port of Dar Es Salaam to be imported into Tanzania.<\/p>\n
[Inspection Required]
\nJAAI inspection is elementary for vehicles imported from Japan. Vehicles imported into Tanzania from Japan must have passed the JAAI inspection. Before importing a vehicle from Japan, make sure that the vehicle has passed the JAAI inspection. A JAAI certificate will be sent along with the shipping documents.<\/p>\n
[Age Restrictions]
\nThere is no age limit for importing used cars from Japan into Tanzania. However, used motor vehicles of 8 years or more, counted from the year of manufacture, will be charged additional excise duty while importing into Tanzania:<\/p>\n
Non-utility vehicle fee: 25 percent
\nCharge for utility vehicles: 5 percent<\/p>\n
The importation of buses, vans, cars, trucks, etc. to be used on public roads in Tanzania must follow this rule. However, this rule does not apply to machinery, cargo, agricultural equipment, graders or bulldozers.<\/p>\n
[Taxation in TANZANIA]
\n1.Vehicles with engine capacity up to 2000cc:
\nImport duty 25%.
\nVAT 20%
\nCumulatively this is 50% of the dutiable value.<\/p>\n
2.Vehicles with engine capacity over 2000cc:
\nImport duty 25%
\nExcise tax 10%.
\nVAT 20%
\nCumulative 65% of dutiable value<\/p>\n
[Excise Duty]
\nIn addition, if the vehicle is older than 8 years, you must also pay excise duty, which is 25% for non-utility vehicles and 5% for utility vehicles.<\/p>\n
The excise duty also varies depending on the engine capacity. The duty is levied on goods and services produced locally or imported. It depends on the basis of different engine capacity.<\/p>\n
Vehicle applicable rate of different capacity:
\n1.Cylinder capacity not more than 1000cc- 0%.
\n2.Cylinder capacity more than 1000cc but not more than 2000cc- 5%.
\n3.Cylinder capacity over 2000cc- 10%.<\/p>\n
