For many of our customers, it is a tool that supports their business every day.<\/p>\n<p>That is one reason Japanese used trucks continue to attract buyers from many parts of the world. But choosing the right truck is not just about finding a familiar Japanese brand or the lowest price.<\/p>\n<p>I am Yuichiro Watabe, President and CEO of EVERY TRADING Co., Ltd. Since 2006, we have exported Japanese vehicles to customers in more than 100 countries. During that time, I have spoken with buyers looking for everything from light-duty delivery trucks to dump trucks, medium-duty cargo trucks, and heavy commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, I would like to explain why Japanese used trucks are chosen internationally and, more importantly, what I believe buyers should check before choosing one from Japan.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Why Japanese Used Trucks Are Chosen Worldwide | Buying Tips from Japan\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AeUI4bNoXRY\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Why Do Buyers Choose Japanese Used Trucks?<\/h2>\n<p>When overseas buyers contact us about trucks, they are usually not buying them just for transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The truck has a job to do.<\/p>\n<p>It may need to deliver goods in a city, transport agricultural products, carry construction materials, operate as a dump truck, support road work, or move equipment between job sites.<\/p>\n<p>Japan has a large commercial vehicle market, which means buyers can find many different combinations of truck size, body type, engine, transmission, drivetrain, and equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Brands such as Isuzu, Hino, Mitsubishi Fuso, Toyota, and Nissan are also familiar to commercial vehicle users in many international markets.<\/p>\n<p>For overseas buyers, however, the important point is not simply that a truck was manufactured in Japan. The important question is whether that specific truck is suitable for the work it will perform after export.<\/p>\n<p>You can see the variety currently available in Japan by browsing our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycar.jp\/used-cars.php?type=Truck\">Japanese Used Trucks for Sale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Japanese Trucks Are Built for Many Different Jobs<\/h2>\n<p>One of the strengths of the Japanese used truck market is variety.<\/p>\n<p>A buyer may be looking for a compact truck for local deliveries. Another customer may need a medium-duty truck for commercial cargo. Someone else may be searching for a dump truck, crane truck, flatbed, refrigerated truck, tanker, or another specialized body.<\/p>\n<p>These trucks can look similar at first glance, but their specifications and intended applications can be very different.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I always encourage buyers to start with the job, not the model name.<\/p>\n<p>Ask yourself:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What will I carry?<\/li>\n<li>How heavy is the typical load?<\/li>\n<li>What road conditions will the truck face?<\/li>\n<li>How far will it travel each day?<\/li>\n<li>What body type does my business require?<\/li>\n<li>Do I need 2WD or 4WD?<\/li>\n<li>What engines and spare parts can be supported locally?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once these questions are clear, it becomes much easier to narrow down the right truck.<\/p>\n<h2>Do Not Choose a Truck by Brand Name Alone<\/h2>\n<p>Customers often contact us already knowing names such as Isuzu Elf, Isuzu Forward, Hino Dutro, Hino Ranger, Mitsubishi Fuso Canter, or Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter.<\/p>\n<p>These are important commercial vehicle families, but the model name alone does not tell you everything you need to know.<\/p>\n<p>Production year, model code, engine, body configuration, payload, wheelbase, drivetrain, transmission, dimensions, and other specifications may vary considerably within the same model family.<\/p>\n<p>For example, two trucks carrying the same model name may have been built for completely different applications.<\/p>\n<p>That is why I recommend checking the individual vehicle rather than assuming that every truck with the same badge has the same specifications.<\/p>\n<h2>Condition Matters, but So Does Suitability<\/h2>\n<p>Of course, condition is important when buying any used commercial vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Buyers should review the available photographs and vehicle information carefully. Mileage, age, engine information, transmission, body condition, and other available details should all be considered.<\/p>\n<p>But there is another point that is sometimes overlooked.<\/p>\n<p>A truck can be in attractive condition and still be the wrong truck for your business.<\/p>\n<p>For a working vehicle, suitability can be more important than appearance.<\/p>\n<p>A customer who needs a dump truck should focus on the dump body and the specifications required for the work. A buyer transporting goods should think about cargo dimensions and load requirements. A business operating on difficult roads may have completely different priorities from a company making short urban deliveries.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience, the best purchase is not necessarily the truck with the best-looking photographs. It is the truck that can perform the customer&#8217;s actual job.<\/p>\n<h2>Think About Maintenance Before You Buy<\/h2>\n<p>A truck needs to keep working after it reaches your country.<\/p>\n<p>That means maintenance should be part of the buying decision.<\/p>\n<p>Before choosing a vehicle, it is worth considering whether mechanics in your area understand that model and engine, whether normal service parts are available, and whether the truck can be supported over the long term.<\/p>\n<p>This becomes especially important when comparing different generations, engines, electronic systems, and specifications.<\/p>\n<p>A vehicle that is easy to maintain in one country may not be the easiest choice in another.<\/p>\n<p>This is why the customer&#8217;s country matters when we discuss the right vehicle.<\/p>\n<h2>Check Import Requirements Before Purchasing<\/h2>\n<p>A truck being available in Japan does not automatically mean it can be imported into every country.<\/p>\n<p>Import requirements differ by destination and vehicle category. Depending on the country, buyers may need to consider vehicle age restrictions, inspections, emissions requirements, import permits, taxes, duties, registration requirements, and rules that apply specifically to commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>These regulations can also change.<\/p>\n<p>Before committing to a truck, buyers should confirm the latest requirements with the relevant government authority, customs authority, or qualified local clearing professional.<\/p>\n<p>Do not assume that a truck imported successfully several years ago will automatically qualify under today&#8217;s rules.<\/p>\n<h2>Understand the Price Beyond the Truck Itself<\/h2>\n<p>Another common mistake is comparing trucks only by the vehicle price.<\/p>\n<p>For an international buyer, the real calculation is broader.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on the transaction, destination, and quotation, costs may include ocean freight, insurance, inspections, import duties, taxes, customs clearance, port charges, inland transportation, and registration.<\/p>\n<p>Truck dimensions can also matter for international shipping, particularly with larger or specialized commercial vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Before making payment, make sure you understand what is included in the quotation and what costs will need to be paid locally.<\/p>\n<p>If you are new to importing vehicles from Japan, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everycar.jp\/how-to-buy\/\">How to Buy from Japan<\/a> guide explains the basic purchasing process.<\/p>\n<h2>Communication Is Part of Buying the Right Truck<\/h2>\n<p>After many years in vehicle export, I believe one of the most important parts of our work happens before the customer sends payment.<\/p>\n<p>We need to understand what the customer is trying to achieve.<\/p>\n<p>If someone simply asks, \u201cWhat is your cheapest truck?\u201d we can show a price. But that alone does not tell us whether the truck will help their business.<\/p>\n<p>I would rather understand the intended use, destination, required specifications, and budget.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes the vehicle a customer first asks about is suitable. Check the specifications and condition. Think about maintenance and parts. Confirm your country&#8217;s import requirements.
