Yesterday TOYOTA have announced that they recall about 1,000,000 Prius because an error was found on their Hybrid system controller. This recall is for the all latest model of Prius manufactured on 2009 March ~ 2014 February. It seems to be the biggest recall as an individual model in Japan.
A recall of vehicle is that a maker repair or change a problematic part for free. In Japan, all vehicles have an inspection certificate to drive a public road. The recall-notification is sent to owner by dealers directly, or sent to the owner on the certificate.
But recall cost a lot for makes. Long time ago, some makers didn't report structural problems of their vehicles to avoid recall though they had known these problems may cause big accidents. And it caused fatal accidents indeed.
I hope such a hiding never cause anymore...
