In 1925, two companies, namely C.L. Best Tractor Company and Holt Manufacturing Company, were merged. The joint venture was known to be Caterpillar Tractor Company in California.
In 1986, the company reorganized. In 2010, they divided their offerings into three categories. They were financial, engines, and machinery products ready to sell on both government and private entities.
Further, in 2011, they had five business segments. They are financial products, power systems, resource industries, construction industries, and all others. By the way, in 1986 the company was renamed as Caterpillar Inc.
Till now, the company have owned many brands other than CAT’s network (CAT, Reman, Lift trucks, Rental Store, and Financial). It comprises SEM, Turner Powertrain Systems, Progress Rail, Solar Turbines, Olympian, and Yellowmark. Also, the list includes WMW, Perkins, M2M, HYPAC, MAK, FG Wilson, Anchor, Kemper, Hindustan, and Asiatrack!
In 2018, the brand was listed at 65th position on the Fortune 500 and ranked 238th in the list of Global Fortune 500.
