TOYOTA LAND CRUISER 70
The Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series has been part of Toyota's heavy-duty Land Cruiser line since 1984. Its ladder-frame construction and part-time 4WD system reflect a design focused on reliability, durability, and off-road capability rather than the more passenger-oriented character of other Land Cruiser lines.
Specifications vary significantly because the 70 Series has a long production history and has been sold in many markets. Japanese used stock may therefore include older diesel models, Japan-market anniversary vehicles, and vehicles originally built for overseas markets.
A notable Japanese version is the 30th-anniversary model released for a limited period in 2014. Toyota offered a five-door van with model code GRJ76K and a double-cab pickup with model code GRJ79K. Both used the 4.0-liter V6 1GR-FE gasoline engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and part-time 4WD. The pickup was a particularly distinctive addition because it was the first double-cab pickup version of the 70 Series officially offered in Japan.
Toyota returned the Land Cruiser 70 to regular Japanese sales in November 2023 with the GDJ76W. This five-door model uses the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV turbo-diesel engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and part-time 4WD. It seats five passengers in Japanese specification.
Older used examples can differ considerably. For example, HZJ-series vehicles equipped with Toyota's 1HZ diesel engine can also appear in the Japanese used market. Before buying, confirm the exact chassis or model code, engine, fuel type, transmission, body configuration, maintenance history, and underbody condition.
