NISSAN CIVILIAN
The Nissan Civilian is a purpose-built minibus with a long history in Japan. See also: Nissan Civilian bus guide. For used-bus buyers, the W40 and W41 generations are particularly relevant, but specifications vary significantly by production year, model code, body length, engine, and market.
The W41 generation was introduced in 1999 and can be found with several engine configurations. See also: Nissan Civilian diesel vs gasoline. Earlier W41 examples include the TD42 and turbocharged TD42T diesel engines. Later vehicles also appeared with engines such as the Mitsubishi Fuso 4M50 diesel, while certain later specifications used Nissan's ZD30 diesel. Nissan's right-hand-drive Civilian specifications list the ZD30 as a 2,953cc four-cylinder diesel engine. Because engine availability changed during the model's production life, buyers should always confirm the exact engine model from the individual vehicle listing.
Body length and seating layout are also important. Nissan documentation for later Civilian models lists standard and long-body versions, with examples configured for 26 or 30 occupants depending on grade and specification. This makes the Civilian useful for operators who need more passenger capacity than a van-based commuter vehicle while retaining a relatively compact bus format. Typical applications include school and kindergarten transport, hotel transfers, sightseeing services, employee transportation, community transport, and private shuttle operations. Interior equipment can differ considerably, so buyers should check seating capacity, seat layout, air-conditioning, entry-door configuration, and luggage requirements before selecting a vehicle.
When comparing a used Nissan Civilian from Japan, also check the model code, engine, transmission, mileage, service history, chassis condition, tire condition, and signs of corrosion. For commercial passenger use, confirm that the seating configuration and vehicle specifications comply with the registration and import requirements of your destination country.
