TOYOTA HIACE COMMUTER
The Toyota Hiace Commuter differs from the cargo-focused Hiace Van by placing greater emphasis on passenger capacity and interior space. In the H200 generation introduced in 2004, Toyota offered the Commuter with a super-long, wide-body, high-roof configuration, making it particularly suitable for commercial and group passenger transport. Specifications have changed during the long production life of the H200 series. Examples from the Japanese market include TRH223B-series models with the 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine and KDH223B-series vehicles with the 3.0-liter 1KD-FTV diesel engine. See also: Toyota Hiace Commuter TRH223B. Toyota later introduced the 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel engine, found in GDH223B-series models. Later Japanese-market specifications include both 2.7-liter gasoline and 2.8-liter diesel engines, while 2WD and 4WD configurations are available depending on model and specification.
Passenger capacity also varies by year and vehicle configuration. See also: Toyota Hiace Commuter passenger configurations. Many Japanese-market Commuter models are configured for 14 passengers, while older versions and special-purpose vehicles may differ. Used stock can also include vehicles originally equipped for welfare transportation, including wheelchair-accessible configurations.
These characteristics make the Hiace Commuter useful for hotel and airport transfers, employee transportation, school or community services, tour operations, and other businesses that need more passenger capacity than a conventional van.
When comparing used vehicles, check the exact model code, engine, fuel type, drivetrain, transmission, seating capacity, and interior arrangement. For welfare or specially converted vehicles, confirm whether lifts, wheelchair restraints, seating, or other equipment remains installed.
