Japanese trucks are trusted worldwide because they are durable, easy to maintain, and supported by a strong parts market. However, many trucks look similar from the outside. Therefore, buyers should always confirm the model code and engine type before purchase.

1. How to Read Japanese Truck Model Codes

In Japan, the full model code may include an emission prefix such as KC-, KK-, PB-, PDG-, BKG-, TKG-, SKG-, and 2RG-, followed by the core model code. For example, PB-XZU301 and KK-XZU301 both use XZU301 as the core model code.

The core model code is very useful when checking engine compatibility. However, it is not always enough by itself. Always confirm the chassis number, production year, and original engine plate when ordering an engine or parts.

2. Toyota Dyna / Toyoace Engine Model Codes

Toyota Dyna and Toyota Toyoace share many platform and engine combinations. Older models often use Toyota B-series, L-series, Y-series, and R-series engines. Later 2-ton to 4-ton trucks often use Hino diesel engines such as S05C, S05D, N04C, J05C, and J05D.
